Grok is the new authority

June 29, 2025

@grok is this true?

Grok is uniquely positioned to be the new authority on truth.

Information moves fast. And for non-scientific topics(news, culture, current events, etc.), there's a unique phenomenon that the first sight of information will typically take the position as the truth, commonly noted as "anchoring bias". Pew cites that about 54% of Americans get their news from social media, and Emerson cites around 37%.

Albeit the fact that X fka Twitter barely cracks the top 5 in terms of relative usage, X has the unique "advantage" that there is an LLM directly integrated in as a user peer.

When in doubt of the validity of content, the (natural) social reaction on X is to reply with "@grok is this true?". An immediate deflection to authority, but not to one of the primary source, journalists, experts, or otherwise "typical" fact checkers.

Like other platforms, X supports the usage of images, videos, streams and other content. But the primary foundation and transport protocol for the platform is fundamentally, text. Links are de-prioritized by The Algorithm™. Coincidentally, the primary information transport protocol for LLMs, is well, text! This UX pattern for X fundamentally aligns with how we interface and interact with LLMS(this is to be true in June of 2025)

Earlier this month, X started paying Telegram to allow users direct access to Grok in the messaging app. For $300m I'd say that's a sweet deal to get ~450M DAU onto the Grok serum.
